J-pop: Scourge of All

When I think of J-pop I tend to imagine that slightly whiny, high pitched screaming that passes for pop music in Japan. Granted, the Japanese probably listen to some of the crap that this country churns out and wonders what the hell is wrong with us, so that’s only fair.
However, the nominal research I did by hitting Wikipedia implies that I might be condemning a rather broad swath of music for no apparent reason. Not that that fact will make me change my mind right yet, but at least the possibility is out there.
